The Furniture or Product of the Year award from the Finnish Association of Interior Architects SIO is a diploma and a prize of recognition. It is awarded every three years; in the intervening years, the Project of the Year award is given instead. The award aims to highlight design of the highest possible quality.
The award is given to a piece of furniture, a luminaire, a textile, or another interior product that demonstrates exemplary design. Eligible entries are products completed or launched in 2024–2026. At least one member of the design team must be a SIO member when the application period closes. The product may be mass-produced, a custom piece designed for a specific project, or a prototype.
The evaluation criteria are the quality and vision of the design, usability and ergonomics, the justification of material and manufacturing choices, topicality and pioneering qualities, sustainability (longevity, repairability, and material origin), suitability for professional interior design, and refined details and finish.
The free-form application must present the product’s basic information (name, manufacturer, year of launch, main materials, and dimensions), the production stage (series production, custom-made, or prototype), the design team and the designer’s role in the project, and publication-quality images with the photographer’s name, along with permission for SIO to use them in its communications.
Application instructions can be found here. The application must be submitted as a single PDF file of no more than 20 pages and 20 MB. A designer, or a manufacturer with the designer’s consent, may nominate up to two products, and each product may be nominated only once.
Applications must be sent to office@sio.fi no later than 3:00 p.m. on 30 November 2026. Late applications will not be considered.
The winner is chosen by a jury appointed by the SIO board, and the award is granted to the designer or design team. The jury may award an honorary mention or choose not to award the prize. The decision will be announced as part of the 2027 ARKMuoto event and is final.
